Aldrich Public Library - Buttons for Change Recipient

Congratulations Aldrich Public Library on your status as the newest ABM Buttons for Change Partner!

The Aldrich Public Library is located in the heart of central Vermont. It serves Barre and the surrounding area by inspiring the joy of reading, promoting lifelong learning, and strengthening community through both traditional library services and innovative new programs.

If you missed our recent FaceBook and Twitter posts about their ingenious use of buttons, you’re in for a treat. The very creative staff at Aldrich Public Library paired the latest Pokemon Go craze with buttons! Participants were given a series of tasks to complete. For each challenge completed they earned a coveted Pokemon badge made from ABM 1” buttons.

Folks, it just doesn’t get any cooler than that!

These tasks ranged from talking to the Teen Librarian about a favorite book, to making an origami Pokemon, to searching for a code in a specific book section. In all, 8 badges could be earned. The prize for earning them? A free book! Simply genius!

Each task had the added benefit of engaging patrons with all aspects of the library without them even realizing it. This challenge brought in people who weren't normally library users, and helped foster enthusiasm for being in the library.

But that’s not all! They also have a Wednesday Lego Club for which they use ABM buttons. Children choose a book based on a theme, use Legos to create something from their book, and earn a button badge for their work. Teens use the button maker to delve into their creativity and design their own badges.

Both kids and adults love receiving a token of recognition for their efforts and are thrilled with the buttons. These buttons have been a great tool to encourage a sense of belonging and accomplishment for those who come to the library.

Way to go Aldrich – keep changing the world, one button at a time!
