Blackland Prairie Raptor Center

Blackland Prairie Raptor Center is dedicated to environmental preservation through public education and the conservation of birds of prey and wildlife in their natural habitat. In 2004, Blackland Prairie Raptor Center (BPRC) opened as a place where the citizens of North Texas could grow their knowledge and appreciation for birds of prey. The vision included not only a place where people could learn and understand birds of prey, but also the environment as a whole. ABM is proud to introduce BPRC as one of our Buttons For Change™ Platinum Partners. BPRC is a rehabilitation and conservation education organization, helping the public understand the relationship between birds of prey and healthy ecosystems.

BPRC is located on 66 acres by Lake Lavon, Texas

BPRC has grown from the reaching more than 5,000 people in their first year to approximately 30,000 people yearly by 2015. The dedicated BPRC volunteers have a combined total experience of over 30 years presenting raptor outreach programs and over 70 years of raptor rehabilitation experience.

The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center's birds of prey are the stars of the outreach programs. Known as the Raptor Ambassadors, these hawks, owls and falcons are non-releasable. With the assistance of BPRC education specialists, they perch ready to teach you about their importance to our environment. BPRC offers outreach programs, events and on-site programs for all ages.

In November ABM had the pleasure of teaming up with BPRC for their great cause to educate and rehabilitate. ABM was on hand to take pictures and make buttons to sell as a fundraiser. In less than one hour we garnered $170 for the Raptor Center. Events are held the first Saturday of each month. The public is encouraged to come out for a fun day spent outdoors and to take a little something back home in the form of a button or magnet. More information on the First Saturday events can be found on the BPRC website.

BPRC was featured on Good Morning Texas earlier this year when the rehab center opened. And again on FOX 4 as part of their Lone Star Adventures. As a thank you, BPRC gives a free refrigerator magnet to individuals who help save an injured raptor by bringing them to the center to be treated.
